<span style="font-size: x-large;">Make Plans Not Goals?</span></div>

</tbody></table>
<span style="font-size: large;">Armed with my list, I went to my local Michael's to look over the planners that were marked down to $10. Since my real reason for visiting was to buy archival safe pens for my photograph labeling project, I picked up what I needed and headed to the planner section.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">For $10, I could buy any medium planner with a pretty cover and use it on my Erin Condren planner or notebooks. I decided to look at this to see what was included with undated planners.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">This planner was a good choice to buy to keep for next year because of the cover and several interesting pages about making goals. It also has stickers for months of the year and has a nice pocket that I could remove and coil clip into my EC notebooks. There is also a coiled, "zippered" pocket. It's a win-win cost. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I discovered that the best way to take a photo of the cover is to place the planner on the rug in the good daylight and take a photo with my phone. Now, I will go back and so this with all my covers.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I have always made plans. Making goals is harder for me because I always set the bar too high for myself. I need to make some yearly goals this year and meet those goals.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">This style planner with the spiral is my favorite. I have uncoiled and combined planner by buying the <a href="http://www.limelifeplanners.com/collections/add-ons/products/replacement-coil">biggest coil </a> made. It isn't easy but it does make a planner exactly right for you needs.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">No time is better than now....</span><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Keeping Coloring Projects Flat and Clean</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I borrowed my daughter's Personal Laminator to create some laminated pages for my Erin Condren Planner. Once I laminated most of what I wanted to do, I decided to review my favorite coloring pages and laminate six to use for a special project.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I keep my coloring pages on clipboards, ready to go when the mood strikes and I store them in a box on my mom's hope chest. The trouble is that they do get wrinkled or bent while they are waiting to be colored. I often have more than 6 pages in progress.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The black arrow indicates that the laminated coloring pages is ready to place over the mandala design on the blue clipboard. It will cover it up until I have finished the ones I have started.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The wavy yellow line indicates that those clipboard with new coloring pages are covered up and ready to to be stored.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I have three large clipboards with partially colored pages not shown on the above photo. There are three more in a plastic "Work in Progress" folder. It is hard to stay on task with coloring so I have decided that there is no task. I work on a page when I feel like it.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Art in the Family</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">When I decided that since genealogy was no longer my hobby and was my profession, I have been thinking about how art would be the best choice for my retirement hobby. Then, along came the "adult coloring" craze and I leapt into it with both hands. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">It has soothed my stress level down quite a bit. It is fun and I have discovered that I do have the often uncomfortable artist's temperament. Although I can't draw or paint, it doesn't mean that I am not a "kind of" artist. I learned that I am a colorist. When my daughter was little, I took a calligraphy course at a community college. When we moved here, I put my books and my paper in a tote with my needlecraft supplies and thought about retirement.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">One of the things I liked about genealogy was that I used to be able to practice "pick up and put down" genealogy. It was in the back of my mind all of the time and as I aged, I knew that I needed to write down family dates, places and stories. It has been a long time and until recently, I have worked full tilt on that. But, do I need to work on it all of the time? I am unsure. I think there must be a way for me to "bookmark" where I left off each time I worked. Enter the world of journaling for family history. As a life-long planner, I incorporated journaling into my planner and this is going to work for me as a writer. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">There have been many talented people on BOTH sides of my family tree. My mother was a college educated artist having gone to the Rhode Island School of Design and her mother was talented at stenciling, furniture finishing and needlework.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I learned recently that the people on my paternal line were also talented. My first cousin, John, can write paint and draw. His father also went to Rhode Island School of Design, but after he married. It wasn't easy traveling from one end of Rhode Island to another after a long day of work, but he did it. His area of expertise was textile work and that's how he found his wife (my father's sister) and she became his laboratory assistant in his work as a developer of dye in cloth.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Many women in my family were gifted in dressmaking and needlework. My late aunt made exquisite lace. Rhode Island was known for their fine textile plants. The men were musically inclined (even playing the bagpipes) and were talented actors.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Of course, you know there were many men who worked in the granite industry both in Scotland and here in America. I like the way the stone and the carving feels when I run my hands over a gravestone.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Finding the color in my world is part of my goals for next year and I will be blogging about it.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Choosing a Coloring Book by Artist</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-size: large;">Owning about a hundred coloring books is quite a task to manage. I have probably bought the ones that I need forever but since it is fun to look at coloring book, I don't really plan to stop. I enjoy reading about why people like certain coloring books and that they change their minds after struggling to finish a page. </span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">So, I decided to seek smaller coloring books so that I could feel finished. I color for fun and to relieve stress and boredom. I like buying pencils, gel pens, markers and even crayons. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">My mother was a artist. I know how much time and work goes into creation. So, I began to search Amazon for coloring books by artist. I came upon this artist (<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Jenean-Morrison/e/B00AI2Q5DG/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_3?qid=1475499022&sr=1-3">Jenean Morrison</a>) who is using Amazon Createspace to self publish her work. (See the last photo below) When the tiny book of Mandalas arrived, I sat and looked over the designs and picked two to color. The one on the left I colored with SuperDoodle and TekWriter/GelWriter pens and the one on the right I colored with Sakura Gelly Roll Glitter pens. The paper isn't as strong so they do buckle a bit when they dry. But, that's fine as I am going to glue them in a blank journal when I finish them. I will be using them for Facebook covers.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Please notice that I took this small 4x6 completely apart and fanned out the pages to take the photo. I have learned that people are stealing pages from artists. That is unethical. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I really like that this tiny coloring book has the images centered on each page. It wasn't perforated (as I prefer) but I could with a little work and my trusty paper cutter, cut off the glued binding and store the pages, with the cover, in a big envelope.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Jenean is promoting her coloring books through social media. It was fun to look for her in various online places and read about her life as an artist. I am looking forward to getting one of her journals for Christmas. </span><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Fear of Neon</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Some months ago, I bought this Mehndi Design color book at my local Michael's on sale for $7. It is a double book meaning that half the book is on Black Background and the other half are on White background.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I knew it would look great if I colored it with neon gel pens. Neon gel pens are very liquid and hard to control, especially the blue ones. The neon gel pens that have glitter in them are much better. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I colored this with some of each to see it some areas look differently. It took me several days to do this because I had to let it dry overnight after working on a section. <span style="font-size: large;">Those of us who author blogs, keep track of the date of the very first post and have a celebration of that date with a special blog post called a "blogiversary". In this special case, I 'd like to celebrate the first day that I decided to go out and buy a "adult" coloring book and try coloring to reduce my stress. It has been a fun adventure and I have a coloring book collection and I am enjoying it very much. I have learned that I favor coloring books that are perforated so I can remove pages and put them on clipboards and color several at a time. Pages colored with gel pens do need to dry. I learned that the hard way.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Colorists have their favorite medium for coloring and I enjoy glitter gel pens the most, followed by Prismacolor pencils, and then Sharpies. I dared to post <a href="http://midgefrazel.blogspot.com/2016/05/say-no-to-non-perforated-coloring-books.html">this blog post</a> about my wanting only to buy perforated, one sided books and it caused quite a stir. After that an artist pointed out to me that the publisher decided whether the pages were perforated, perfect bound, stapled, glue bound or spiral bound and she was right. It is the publisher's fault if the book is substandard, not the artist.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">It is interesting to note, on this first coloriversary, that I enjoyed the low stress coloring of the book shown above. It was staple bound and printed on both sides. I took the book apart, by removing the staple, and decided which pages I wanted to color. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I thought the name "Grown Up" was funny and this "brand" was sold at 5 Below and Ocean State Job Lot. I wondered if they made more so I looked at Amazon and was pleasantly surprised to see <a href="https://amzn.com/B01G2OINBA">this set of books</a> (all with the same name!) Guess what? They are now single sided and perforated. The difference is that they were made in India before and now they are made in the United States. They are still inexpensive at $14.99 for four books.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">I am spending a lot of time learning about the kinds of pens and pencils I enjoy working with and finding ways to keep my materials organized. My favorite coloring pages are Mandalas just like the first book I bought. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Don't get me wrong! I still love using colored pencils to color but I have been working with various brands of gel pens to see how I like those too. It has taken a lot of time, and of course money to do this so I decided that it was time to talk about it.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Shown here are the brands that I have been working with. I also have the widely available TekWriter pens which I can buy from Amazon or at AC Moore under the name of GelWriter. They have the widest range of colors and types. (Regular, Glitter, Neon and Metallic). You can see all the photos of my <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/midgefrazel/albums/72157657810647970">coloring supplies here</a>.</span></div>
</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-size: large;">However, I have decided that I am a Glitter Gel Pen maven. All glitter, all the time. I have purchased the "clear-silver" Stardust Gelly Pens to put over the non-glitter pens and pencils with much success. They still make a mess out of metallic pen coloring.</span><div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">The <a href="https://amzn.com/B001C2CO3Q">Sakura Stardust </a>and <a href="https://amzn.com/B01A91KMJS">Super Doodles</a> are my favorites. I have put the <a href="https://amzn.com/B005V9V6L2">Sargent </a>pack away for my birthday in December.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I keep all my new packs of glitter gel pens in a bag in my office so I won't be tempted to open them until absolutely necessary. I al keeping the empty cases to store my Sakura pens in as they easily roll around.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">Portable Light for Colorists</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">This lightweight, foldable and portable lamp was purchased specifically for my colorist work that I do in the evening while I watch TV. It is small enough to fit on my side table. (see photo) The light, on its highest level, is perfect for coloring small areas and doesn't glare in my husband's eyes or on the TV screen. It is also useful for reading small areas in genealogical records. I used it out of the box for two days without charging it.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">When I plugged it into my USB charging station, it took longer than overnight to charge (the light goes out when it is fully charged). So, I contacted the company to ask if that was normal and it was decided that they would send me another which arrived from Amazon a week or so later. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">The new one still takes a while to charge, but not as long as my first one. I am charging it at night every few days. Thank you, Cynthia from Kamotech for helping me with my problem. They allowed me to keep the first one and I put it in a different room (see photo) to see if it will charge when the battery goes dead.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">There are other lights like this but the description says they are heavier. I do tip it over sometimes, and I wish it was a bit heavier at the base but it has not broken yet. I think for the price ($16.99) this is a great product.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Whenever I go to Target, I search through the "kids" stuff at the beginning of the store. I have found many useful things to organize my "stuff" and fun toys for my grandsons. The best so far is the $5 lapboards shown here. I have pink and black.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Yesterday, I found this tiny coloring book (upper right) which has scaled down designs of bigger patterns from the $4 coloring books I buy there. This way, I won't have to cut pages in half to color on the porch.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">All the way home in the car, I "broke" by gently flattening the binding enough to get the book flat so I could slowly take pages out. It is glued so I still had to cut off the edge a bit. Good enough for $3.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">This was the only one in the whole bin. Kids must have scooped them up before I got there. I think, when colored, they will make great Facebook covers.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">The spaces are VERY small to color in but I can do it if I have the right light. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: x-large;">Sakura Gelly Roll Stardust Glitter Pens</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I made a great discovery! Sakura of America makes a line of glitter pens that actually have names and numbers! <a href="http://sakuraofamerica.com/webhome/content-page/gelly-roll-stardust-color-chart">This is the color chart</a>.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I bought the first few as open stock at Michael's to make sure they were glittery enough for me. I do like have open stock gel pens in case I run out of a color in mid-project.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">The pens are of the brand name Gelly Roll and are called Stardust. The cap of each pen has a meteor symbol on them. Single pens are expensive at over $2 each but there is a lot of ink in them. They are smooth and flow easily. The tip is not extra small but I am learning to color the bigger spaces with them.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">At Amazon, they are sold on a card of <a href="https://amzn.com/B000N71IPQ">"meteor"</a> and <a href="https://amzn.com/B000XAOS28">"galaxy"</a> with six pens each. In that way, there are no duplicates. As you can see by the above photo, I found that they also sell them in a <a href="https://amzn.com/B001C2CO3Q">"cube" box </a>type case of 16 and some colors are duplicated.</span></div>
<div>

<span style="font-size: large;">I love this series of coloring books because they have interesting designs and are very inexpensive to have. I read online in a Facebook group I belong to, that Walmart stores in other areas of the county have been putting these out as a display kiosk in their stores. But, until last week, I had only seen the "inspirational saying" lines that Walmart favors. </span><div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Since I went to Walmart to buy cleaning products and a new brand of eyeshadow that my daughter favors, I almost walked right the display of coloring books. I consider shopping a mission to be completed as quickly as possible so I can get home to my work and coloring.</span><div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">The first thing I noticed is that this publisher has been smart and finally produced a spiral bound "Best of..." book of the designs most purchased. As I already own most of these titles I didn't look at that but hunted around in the books until I finally found this "Sweet Wonders" title. I came right home and put it away for December. Hubs was excited to find it because he has been looking in stores when he goes out alone. Under $5.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I now own 75 coloring books and journals. My favorite new book is my planner that I bought at Michael's. I am coloring the front cover right now and I like the way it is coming out. It is an 18 month undated planner that I plan to start using in January 2017.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Until then, I will whisper "sweet nothings" in anyone's ear that buys me coloring books, gel pens and pencils. You simply can't have enough.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I am excitedly awaiting the new light I bought which should arrive today!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Dreaming of Glitter...</span><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">While shopping at the Dollar Store, I found this wire display holder that will work perfectly for photographing my Coloring Book covers. That is how I am keeping track of all the coloring books that I have purchased. It holds the books at just the right angle to be photographed.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">While I was testing that out, I put my marker holder inside and it will then hold a single coloring page nicely to be photographed.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">As you can see I am addicted to glitter pens so much that I am going to be adding glitter somehow to every page that I color. I have found that the <a href="http://amzn.com/B00K3KRZQ4">"clear" pens</a> I purchased, which are really silver glitter in a clear base, can enhance even the pages that I am coloring with colored pencils. I have some "flat" color gel pens that can become glittery if I use that clear pen over it. Only some colors of metallic gel pens do not work well to be converted to glittered coloring.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">My favorite glitter pens are <a href="http://amzn.com/B01A91KMJS">SuperDoodle</a> and <a href="http://amzn.com/B0190DAES0">Color Technik</a>. The clear pens are <a href="http://amzn.com/B00K3KRZQ4">Sakura Gelly Roll Stardust</a>.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Yes, I am dreaming of glitter....</span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I finally found a box with a tight fitting lid to hold my Sharpies. The caps must stay tight and of course, because they are permanent they are hard to color with. The smell is awful. They roll around. That is not stress free coloring.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">For Mother's Day, I bought myself <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/midgefrazel/26763443441/">two small sets of 5 pens</a> that aren't in the <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/midgefrazel/23293778990">80s Glam collection</a> I bought last year. I went online to get the color names because I am annoyed by the lack of name or number on them. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I am using them for the small coloring journals I bought at Five Below. I can use gel pens and colored pencils inside the journal but not for the cover. That needs to be permanent coloring.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I tested this page and these do bleed through so I am sacrificing the other side of this page. I probably will rip it out when I am done.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;">Say <b>No</b> to Non Perforated Coloring Books!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Today, hubs took one of the small coloring books that I am getting for Mother's Day to a local Staples to find out if they could cut the binding off. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Yes, they said but the design will be very close to the edge. That's fine as I knew I would have trouble doing this one by myself. The cost was two dollars and is the same for any, even larger, coloring book. It is definitely worth it.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I wanted to keep the cover and I was amused that the binding was included in the bag. I can see that the line for where the book bends to open is not exactly on the line that was cut but it might be on larger books. I am now going to go through all the books in my vast collection (that are not already cut (by me) or perforated) and take them to be done. I love going to Staples so that won't be a hardship. (grin)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I am glad that I learned this tip from my coloring book Facebook group and it will make coloring easier!</span></div>

<span style="font-size: x-large;">Shine On</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Recently, I read about a gel pen that I didn't own and really didn't know why it wasn't included in the "sets" of gel pens.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">It took me a while to <a href="http://amzn.com/B00K3KRZQ4">track it down and find it at Amazon</a>. ($9 for six pens) It is Sakura USA "Gelly Roll" brand and it has a clear cap and a "meteor" symbol on the clip. It appears silver because it is silver glitter in a clear gel base. I have used it over existing gel glitter areas to add more shine and to smooth out some rough spots. It does add sparkle to metallic gel pen areas and make the flat basic and neon colors look much better but the flat looks much better than the neon.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> I am finding it hard to buy sets that have a true red glitter pen included. <a href="http://amzn.com/B0190DAES0">This set is the best set I have </a>but it is expensive. The case is excellent.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">It can be used alone as and looks silver which is great for areas that you might not want to leave as white space (like eyes) or on the black areas and outlines which seem very harsh with glitter pens over them.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I colored some areas with my Prismacolor Premier pencils lightly and then went over those areas with this special pen and they look great. I don't know if it looks good with every color but I am hoping it does because then it will increase the number of colors I can use in an area. as I have the 120 colored pencil set. I also have neon and metallic pencils to experiment with as yet.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">What doesn't work is the areas that I have colored with the<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDAJXNEB6sQ"> Vaseline method</a>. It is too greasy for the gel pens to adhere to.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">After coloring with glitter gel pens for a couple of months, I was wondering if there was a clear glitter pen that I could use to sparkle up and over my flat gel pen coloring so I ordered this two pack from Amazon. It is an add on item (which means you must order over $25 in a Prime order to get such a small order included.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Update! I finally found them in <a href="http://amzn.com/B00K3KRZQ4">Prime in a multi pack called Meteor.</a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">It took a while to get here and I got impatient. But, finally, it arrived at my porch today. I colored over a page I was working on and it worked as I had hoped. So, while that was drying, I took out a page of the <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/midgefrazel/22571859228/">Mehndi book</a> with a black background that I would like to color with the neon pens. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Neon pens are very watery and are hard to get to dry. You must color slowly and not too close to the edge. Not very stress free in my opinion.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I am trying on section of a page, letting it dry and applying a layer over it. So far it is working well. Buying these pens is a challenge. Now that I see what they look like I am going back to Michael's and try to find it in the open stock pen section.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">Coloring can be a lot of work and since I color for fun, I like to try out new ideas. I found there <a href="http://amzn.com/B00LV0ZAGW">Swirl Gel Pens at Amazon</a> and decided to try them out on a smaller sized coloring page to see how much I could color before the ink changed. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I kept switching pens as I colored and found it to be easier that making all the decisions on what color to use. Finally, one switched on me as I was coloring. <span style="font-size: x-large;">The Joy of Glitter Pens</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">After looking a several brands of glitter gel pens, I decided on these <a href="http://amzn.com/B0190DAES0">Color Technick pens from Amazon</a> because they were a set of 12 ( not 10) for the price. The caps stay on tightly. This is more important than you might think.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><span style="background-color: #f6f7f8; color: #141823; line-height: 16.08px;">Set of 12 Amazing Vibrant Colors Including Gold, Silver, Green, Light Blue, Orange, Purple, Red, Yellow, Pink, Light Green, Black & Blue.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">One different set looked great BUT they are Japanese made and it might take forever to find them in my mailbox. Color Technick also make <a href="http://amzn.com/B011K7O1HE">regular gel pens in a package </a>that would be a nice gift for someone who doesn't need a set of 100 pens.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Exceptionally smooth, these pens come in this nice carrying case that snaps shut. You can see the colors clearly through the case and the manufacturer has named the colors. I find it annoying that my Techwriter gel pens set doesn't put any identifying number on each pen so that I can find the duplicates in each set.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I am keeping these pens separate from my others because the colors are a bit different. One that stands out is the red glitter pen which looks very good with the green glitter pen for coloring pages for the season of Christmas. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I chose the Mandala from the "Little Book of Coloring for Calm" which is a very nice size but was not perforated and I damaged a couple taking the book apart. This one had 24 "leaves" around the edge so I decided to use it as my color sample. I will color the rest and put the pens aside for this summer when I color the holiday sheets.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;">The Joy of Gel Pens</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Coloring with gel pens is quite a different experience than coloring with colored pencils. I understand that coloring with pencils can be very hard on your hands if you color for a significant amount of time.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I took the recommendation of coloring friends and opted for the TekWriterUSA pens in the stadium stand and even though I own <a href="https://flic.kr/p/CCUiQe">two small packages of gel pens of other brands</a>, these are my favorite. I like using these at night while I watch TV. As soon as I discovered I liked them, I started searching for "open-stock" gel pens (which in coloring lingo means that you can purchase another coloring pen or pencil individually), right away and much to my annoyance that is not the case with this brand.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The gel pens are often found in the "scrapbooking section". I am a fan of taking a quick photo with my phone so I can remember where I saw them and how much they co</span><span style="font-size: large;">st. Here's the photo from my iPhone:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRAUpTCgfUMKXWh6e9gjaUDf97J15I1tMZos8aomXoSciRI7D553wOK66dDlBru_TwyDJEgivUYyFEqt0UK1rH8x_aY0qjyZPIhlNigFeNGgd9E3zVui-yi4H4AggOWGDozoQ7ug/s1600/gelwriters.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRAUpTCgfUMKXWh6e9gjaUDf97J15I1tMZos8aomXoSciRI7D553wOK66dDlBru_TwyDJEgivUYyFEqt0UK1rH8x_aY0qjyZPIhlNigFeNGgd9E3zVui-yi4H4AggOWGDozoQ7ug/s320/gelwriters.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Pens at my local Michael's Cost $49.95<br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">As soon as I began to run out of a color, I began to hoard 40% off coupons so I could get another set, which I did because the colors are MOSTLY the same and they came in this great plastic carrier which fits on my table. I took all the pens out, examined them and discovered a white pen in the mix. I wasted a hour studying them side by side the <a href="http://amzn.com/B0131Y0U0Q">original set I got for Christmas</a>. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I discovered, with great surprise, that I am a fan of the most glittery pens. You guessed it, they ran out first. So I bought <a href="http://amzn.com/B0190DAES0">another brand of just glitter pens</a> and they are out for delivery today. One pen is red with glitter which sounds fun for holiday coloring.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">When I went out shopping this past week to help out a friend just getting started with coloring, the sales clerk handed me a 50% off coupon which is good next week only. I have to decide if I should get this same set and put them away for Christmas. It certainly makes it affordable if I can keep them sealed up. Note that the Michael's I went to this week (not in my area) only had one set left. That gave me some panic. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I love the rotating stand. I find I am not dropping pens and pencils as much and I can keep my pencil sharpener in the top most tier with my blending pencils and erasers. If I take them out, I can close up the stand and there is a built in carry handle.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Some coloring books are perfect for coloring with gel pens. If the paper is a little rough, it works great. What do you think? Am I becoming the "crazy cat lady" of coloring supplies?</span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Organized Pencils </span><br />Part 1</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The day before Christmas, Amazon delivered my set of <a href="http://amzn.com/B005O2ZU68">Prismacolor Premier 150</a> pencils early! Last fall, I purchased locally at Michaels, the set of 72 because that's what I thought was the largest set. I began to use them and decided I needed to put them in cases to minimize breakage and to look at the colors together before I began a project. I bought a <a href="http://amzn.com/B00BHY3AJG">case</a> and I loved it and then bought two more from <a href="http://www.jerrysartarama.com/">Jerry's Artarama</a> because that art supply business had them in colors. I now own three. I have decided to keep my metallic and neon pencils separate and have ordered a <a href="http://amzn.com/B007KAWVVE">small 48 pencil case</a> for that purpose.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/midgefrazel/24441393854/">Larger photo of above photo</a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I took all my pencils out of the cases and reorganized them and it took a long time. I made a list of what is in the Prismacolor Premier 150 set, put it in Evernote and started to put the old and new pencils in order the way they are in the 150 box but in the cases. The box now holds the colors I will need to replace the first set when the pencils get to small to use.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The reason I did this was that I realized last night that I was not selecting the best colors together to color with. I never have enough blue, green, orange, purple and yellow pencils for a design. When I went o color with red pencils, I found that the 150 set has a lot more. I put my most broken and sharpened pencil in the pencil extender to test it out.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I've been thinking, as I color, about how hard some of the coloring books are to color in despite their popularity. Colorists (people who color) are not necessarily artists and don't color to become one. Some people run right to the <a href="http://amzn.com/1780671067">best selling and popular coloring books</a> or they get them as a gift. But, that is not how you learn to color and not how you should decide if you like coloring (or not). You should work up to the more difficult coloring books. I color for stress reduction and enjoyment not because I think I want to be an artist.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://amzn.com/0996648070">The coloring book above</a> is inexpensive and the paper is good. The designs have larger spaces but they are still inviting to look at. It is only 25 or so pages but the description at Amazon says that it is 56 pages because they count the blank page on the reserve side as a page. I asked the publisher, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Color-4-Fun-LLC-914617951907356/">Color 4 Fun LLC</a>, about this to be sure and that'</span><span style="font-size: large;">s how I found out. I don't write a negative review on Amazon until I have all the facts. I paid $6.26 for the book (the publisher is not paying me to write this.)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Since is is not perforated (common for inexpensive books), I used my heavy duty paper cutter to cut the binding off and cut each sheet down. The first one I started smeared and I tossed it. It was the gel marker and not the fault of the coloring book. This happens. I decided to use my Prismacolor Premier pencils on the page shown and to add a bit of blue sparkle to the center. It took me about two evenings to color it. I took it out in the daylight and fixed some spots. I find I have to do that, especially with dark colors.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">These rest of the pages in this book will be colored next summer as I relax on the porch so they are safely in a plastic folder until then. I like the easy coloring pages. Yes, I am a senior. I am 68.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Thank you Jack, for answering my questions.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">Learn from Your Mistakes</span></div>
</span><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br /><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">This series of blog posts started with a blog entry called <a href="http://midgefrazel.blogspot.com/2015/11/making-mistakes.html">"Making Mistakes</a>". I was hoping that by learning from others, I would not make as many mistakes as I did with other hobbies. After all, the idea is to reduce my stress not add to it. In teacher's college it was made clear to us that the only way to learn was to make mistakes. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">At first, I tried to not make stray marks on my coloring pages but I soon learned that coloring that slowly was not for me. I was using my trusty <a href="http://amzn.com/B001CDEQKO">Prismacolor Magic Rub</a> eraser and my <a href="http://amzn.com/B001HA77OO">Pentel Clic Stick</a> eraser that I use with my genealogy work, where making errors is expected. You can buy these locally and they are great for everyday use.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">They didn't work as well as I hoped so I bought the<a href="https://flic.kr/p/zWMgM7"> Faber Castell pencil style eraser</a> in a two pack shown here at Michael's That's a good eraser but as I kept reading up on what others use, I discovered two things. The first was that there is a <a href="http://amzn.com/B000OKZYJ8">"set" of tools with two erasers</a> in it. (Those erasers are shown in my photo above.) Plastic eraser must be made of different stuff than other erasers. The kneaded eraser I already owned from doing art work some time back. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">But, the second thing I learned is that after a while you learn to take people's advice and buy the best. That would be the Tombow 2.3 Mono Zero Eraser and refills. It is really amazing and I can't live without it. Light and small, it is also refillable. I discovered that I can erase small sections of gel pen mistakes with this. I love it so much, I decided to <a href="http://amzn.com/B00PUUOSKI">buy the refills</a>. Amazon suggested I might like to buy another <a href="http://amzn.com/B005IQHCHK">Tombow Mono Eraser with their add-on program</a> so I did. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Michael's and AC Moore do not carry this product in their stores. That is disappointing.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">So go ahead and learn from your mistakes.</span><br />
